This study attempts to investigate how Fo Guang Shan, a religious group that has taken root in Taiwan, copy or restructure the empirical model of building up Buddhism in Taiwan to Malaysia. In addition, the obstacles and challenges they faced will be examined. Through the research study of Fo Guang Shan Malaysia, it is hoped to understand how the well-developed Buddhist organization in Taiwan overcame the transnational barriers in order to get the approval from Malaysian local society, and how they integrated the cultural differences to achieve successful communications. The oversea developments of Taiwanese Buddhist organization gradually became mature in the early 1990s. The transnational religion in Taiwan progressively developed along with the revival of Buddhism, and Fo Guang Shan is one of the representative organizations. Therefore, it is hoped that by focusing on the transnational phenomenon that occurred when Fo Guang Shan constructed their associations and cultural businesses, the research will accomplish the analysis on the problems of transnational religion.
