本研究旨在探討大專生觀光系學生對於觀光英文課的習後心得與看法,同時並且探討飯店業目前對於員工之英文能力的需求以及目前員工的英文能力表現。研究對象為五所台灣大學-中部地區觀光系學生共300名,資料收集方式主要以問卷調查為主,深度訪談為輔。資料分析方式為統計量化分析,歸納研究結果摘述如下。 一、 學生認為學校所提供的觀光英文訓練不足以應付職場上的需求。 二、 實習經驗幫助學生更了解職場上英文的需求。 三、 學生認為學校所提供的觀光英文課程應多重視聽力與口語訓練,足以應對在職場上與客人即時溝通的需求。 四、 飯店業者表示目前員工之職場英文能力迫切地需要更多的訓練來提升,同時期盼學校的觀光英文課程內容可以更符合職場上的需求,已達到實用目的。
This study aims to investigate students’ perceptions of tourism English learning at colleges in central Taiwan. Meanwhile, this study explores English needs at international hotels perceived by employers and current English performances at work of employees. The participants of the study are three hundred students who majored in tourism-related. The researcher collected data from questionnaire mainly, and in-depth interviews are secondary resources. Statistical Package Social Sciences (SPSS) was applied to analyze statistical data. The major findings of this study are in the following: 1. Participants express that English training at college is insufficient to satisfy English needs at work. 2. According to participants’ expression in the interview, they get better- known with the importance of English proficiency after taking internship. 3. This study suggests that students should have more opportunities of practicing English listening and oral skills in tourism English courses at school, which helps them to be capable of communicating with customers efficiently at workplace. 4. The qualitative results of this study reveal that hotel employers expect the contents of tourism English at school could be designed more pragmatically to meet the needs at workplace. Moreover, they stressed that the current English proficiency of their employees needs large improvement urgently.
