Impaired immune function is common among patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), and vaccine effectiveness is reduced in this patient population. Frequent hospitalizations, immunosuppressive therapy, and maintenance dialysis or undergoing kidney transplantation are important risk factors for infection. Vaccination is a pivotal component of maintaining health and wellness in patients with CKD. In this article, we introduce the current evidence and recommendations for vaccination of influenza and pneumococcal disease in CKD patients.
