Experiences of Undergraduates Using the Ni-Ti Rotary Technique at the Beginning of the Endodontic Curriculum

摘要

The purpose of this study was to describe the initial experiences teaching the HREO Shaper(superscript ®) NiTi rotary technique to undergraduates and to justify teaching NiTi rotary instrumentation at the beginning of the endodontic laboratory curriculum, Fifty-two fourth-and fifth-year dental students practiced the HREO Shaper technique in April 2005, Simulated curved canal resin blocks and 3 HERO Shaper(superscript ®) files up to size #30 (0.04 taper) were used by all of the students, The preparation time, amount of increased canal width, deviation, and centering ratio were calculated for the apical 4 mm of length and statistical analyses were performed. During the experiment, working time and performance in maintaining the original shape using the HERO Shaper(superscript ®) instrumentation for the 2 groups of dental students showed no statistical difference, By teaching the use of the HERO Shaper(superscript ®) files at the beginning of the endodontic curriculum, neophyte dental students were able to maintain the original shape in curved root canals within 4 minutes.
