In traditional teaching of design, "design" and "construction" are separated with different emphases, methods and steps. They have an obvious serial relationship in specific operation. And the separation between design and construction leads to students' lack of overall consciousness and integrated thinking in the learning process. During the teaching of construction, students participate in the whole process from scheme designing to construction drawing and then to field construction, gaining a deep understanding of real scale, the characteristics of materials and construction methods. With project implementation as the core goal, the teaching of construction is more conducive to the combination of theory and the practice, so that students can understand the differences and connections between drawings and material objects. This article takes the works of the three "BFU International Garden-making Festival" as an example to analyze the whole design-build process from conceptual design, space strategy, and node details. "The Wind Nest", one of the winners of the construction award of the second BFU International Garden-making Festival, is taken as an example to preliminarily explore the mode of "design-build" integration in the process of construction and establish the collaborative system of design and construction.

This study investigated the impact of site-specific, experience economy, and location and neighborhood attributes on room rates for high room-rate and low room-rate bed and breakfasts (B&Bs). A total of 355 samples from 88 B&Bs in Nantou, Taiwan, were obtained. The effects of the attributes on the room rates of B&Bs were estimated by employing a "hedonic pricing" method. The results suggest that, first, managers of high room-rate B&Bs must manage a significantly higher number of favorable attributes than managers of low room-rate B&Bs do. Second, regardless of the type of B&B, all B&B guests are willing to pay a premium for high-quality esthetic experience and more facilities and equipment. Third, certain attribute that reduces the room rate of high room-rate B&Bs ultimately increases the room rate of low room-rate B&Bs. These results can assist managers of both high room-rate and low room-rate B&Bs in shaping pricing and management strategies.

The unique political and economic systems and cultural identities are the fundamental structures of Taiwan's historic districts. In recent years, many distinctive old streets have been gradually becoming the popular attractions in Taiwan tourism and leisure industry. Litoudian historic district was the birthplace of Taichung and has the reputation of ancient monuments, local snack and hospitable residents. However, with the fast urban development as well as the rapid increase population and emigration, its human assets and cultural atmosphere are gradually destroyed. Thus, this study explores the representative spaces at several spots in Litoudian historic district and measures their levels of spirit of place from tourists' points of view. Besides, discussion of qualia and related issues have expanded as far as the industrial and design world, which reflects the fact that people place increasing emphasis on quality of life and their impression of their environment. For some restoration and beautification works will be performed in a few representative places in Litoudian historic district, this study also investigates their levels of qualia and then studies correlations between spirit of place and qualia elements. Our goal is to provide proper suggestions for old street renovation projects to achieve beauty and quality to meet professional requirements and minimize the possibilities to destroy old streets' existing unique antique atmosphere.

Naturalness is an essential environmental character that appears in the development of indicators for landscape assessment, including landscape preference and ecological value. However, scientific and convenient indicators are needed on the policy agenda and are increasingly needs in the assessment of different landscape functions. Thus, this study introduces a critical low-level feature of natural images that can represent variations in environmental naturalness, designated the 1/f characteristics. Generally, 1/f characteristics represent the visual texture of the environment, which is different in urban and natural environments. We subjected 117 images from communities in the Midwestern USA to 1/f characteristic analysis. We demonstrate that the 1/f characteristics varied with the proportion of the natural and artificial elements within a particular scene, thus representing variations in environmental naturalness. Additionally, the high correlation between 1/f characteristics and landscape preference is explained by the processing-fluency theory of visual signals, which may provide a neurological explanation for landscape preference. Finally, the application of these visual features to the urban environment is discussed.

For urban development in Taichung City, after administration area moved to Xitun District, the surrounding roads become wider and the park increased in this area. Taichung Seventh Redevelopment Zone, which also located in Xitun District, has become a prosperous area in Taichung City. Therefore, more and more high-rise buildings, including residential, business, business-residential and public facility land that appeared in this area. By reviewing and generalising literature and research design, the study focuses on identity perception of the landscape planting design for high-rise building in different regions and different landscape space categories, which is divided into three regions and nine landscape space. Questionnaire was used to surrey the basic factors of planting design, which is divided into five basic principles and thirteen factors of self-explanatory sensitivity of plant design landscape perception. The results of the research and analysis show that pedestrians in different urban land use regions and different landscape space categories have different sensitivity to plant design of landscape perception. It also could act as references for direction planting design of landscape open space in Taiwan.
