A number of 250 baby foods were purchased from eastern, southern and central parts in Taiwan, 150 samples were local commodity and 100 samples were imported. the Viable total count, coliform test and foreign matter were tested according to official methods of CNS. The results showed 14.0% of tests were failed to meet the hygienic standard. The cause of failure in imported baby foods was due to the containing of foreign matter in the test samples, however the local commodities were found to be high in viable count and coliform positive in addition to foreign matters.
