Color Additives of Imported Food Products in Taiwan

並列摘要

This report summarized the analysed results of 134 imported food items sampled during September 1988 to May 1989. The detecting methods of coloring agents were performed according to CNS and Japanese Standard Methods of Analysis for Hygienic Chemists procedures. Most of the food products collected at the present study were candy related. Senventeen (17) products out of 134 food samples were found to use natural coloring agents, while the rest of food products (117) were detected containing artificial colors. The samples using artificial additives showed that the rate of 20.5% (24/117) was containing the food color prohibited in Taiwan. The most common used illegal or prohibited colors were Acid Red and a unknown yellow color. The majority of food products using these prohibited colors were mainly imported from Japan and European countries.
