This study evaluated two kinds of massages-massage with essential oil and massage-how they relieved pains on patients with terminal cancer. Our study revealed that variation between groups is insignificant. Pain-relief effect on the massage alone group is significant as soon as 30 minutes after therapy. The average index dropped 3.13 points and reduced pain by 68%. The pain reduction effect continued for 24 hours. The pain relief index on the massage with essential oil group dropped even more sharply measured at 12 hours, 16 hours, 20 hours, and 22 hours after each therapy. The preliminary result of this study suggests the following: massage with essential oil works better than massage for pain relief. However, owing to the small number of our sample group, further study with a greater sample of patients is necessary in order to capitalize on the pain relief effect.
