The surface enhanced Raman scattering of interfacial H2O, D2O and HDO molecules on Ag electrodes during oxidation-reduction cycles in electrolytes containing Cl-ions is reviewed. The SERS line-shape and potential dependence of interfacial water depend upon the hydration energy of the metal cations. It can be explained in terms of orientation and environment of interfacial water molecules.
