English Abstract

The film Suzhou River, as a new kind of narration of ontologically unstable fabula, attempts to destabilize the concept of a stable, original fabula, that is, a ”what really happened” that exists and precedes the act of telling story. Without a stable story, the reality in the course of interpretations collapses, thus being unable to reconstruct the story. The ambiguity of ontological borders proves to be the fragmentation and complication of modern society.
