Chinese Abstract

Objective To study the ICAM-1 expression on bronchial epithelial cells of the sequential smoke-induced chronic bronchitis rat model during the inflammation process. Methods Chronic bronchitis sequential rat model was established by passively inhaling smoke mixture. Experiments were performed on 30 young male Sprague-Dawley rats, which comprised 5 groups in random, i.e. 4 chronic bronchitis model groups and 1 control group. The levels of ICAM-1 expression were determined by immunohistochemistry method. Specimens were studied by semi-quantitative method to evaluate the morphologic changes in various stages. Meanwhile, the inflammatory cells of the BALF and the activity of MPO were analyzed. Results During the process of the chronic bronchitis, the ICAM-1 expression was increasing as time went on, positively related with the pathologic score (P<0.01), and the activity of MPO(P<0.05). Conclusion ICAM-1 may play an important role in the inflammatory process of chronic bronchitis.
