Measurements of the Intercondylar Notch by Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Anterior Cruciate Ligament Insufficiency Versus Intact Knee

並列摘要

The purpose of this study was to measure the intercondylar notch width, femoral condylar width, notch height, and notch ratio at anterior outlet level in 50 anterior cruciate ligament insufficiency and 50 ACL intact knee by MRI to determine if any anatomical predisposing factors to ACL tear could be detected. We also measured the intercondylar notch width during ACL reconstruction and correlated it with MRI measurements. The mean intercondylar notch width at anterior outlet level which was measured during operation was 15.0±1.5 mm and at the same level measured in MRI was 15.2±2.1 mm(P > 0.05). The mean notch ratio (intercondy notch widty/femoralchondylar width) in ACL insufficiency knee was 0.205 ± 0.03 and 0.224±0.03 in ACL intact knee. Statistical analysis revealed it was significant differences between them (P < 0.005). A lower intercondylar notch ratio less than 0.20 which wan measured from MRI may increase the risk to anterior cruciate ligament injury.
