Patients who had a skin defect with an exposed bone or implant in the leg were selected. Ten patients underwent closure of leg wounds by using type A fasciocutaneous flaps as described by Cormack and Lemberty. The average length-to-width ratio for flaps in this series was 2:1. The leg wounds in nine of these ten patients eventually healed without serious seqlae, although three had major complications that required further surgical intervention. Peripheral vascular insufficiency and wound contamination were the causes of the major complications. Random fasciocutanous flap is a relatively simple one-stage procedure. For small- or moderate- sized, uncontaminated wounds, The speed and simpliciaty in utilize-ing these random fasciocutaneous flaps should be considered.
