並列摘要

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a great health burden for communities. Prevention and management should he implemented in the general population and in high risk populations, such as those with diabetes. A reduced filtration rate and microalbuminuria, both components of CKD, are related to the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). A recent survey showed a high prevalence of CKD among Taiwanese, with an alarmingly low awareness rate. Moreover, the risk factors for CKD, such as high blood pressure low socioeconomic status and herbal medication, are common among Taiwanese. Therefore, it is mandatory to understand the risks of CKD and CVD so that the disease burdens can he reduced significantly. In this review, the population data for CKD 的ld CVD in Taiwanese are presumed to better understand the CKD burdens in the general population and in high risk groups, such as those with diabetes.
