This study aims to perform in-situ measurement and analysis on the vibration induced by the pilot blast testing in the New Wushanling Tunnel Project. In the test, the maximum charge amount for both single-hole blasting and multi-hole short-delay blasting of the drill and blast method for this project was simulated. The vibration level in the free field at different distances to the blasting point, as well as at the slope, the hydraulic structures and the original Wushanling Tunnel in the surrounding area, were measured. In addition, the vibration characteristics were investigated and compared according to the wave forms, the amplitude attenuation with respect to distance, the Fourier spectra and the response spectra. Based on the results, the influence of the vibration induced by the drill and blast during the construction of a new tunnel on the neighboring residential area and existing engineering structures can be evaluated. Furthermore, the procedures of blasting, the safety monitoring and management for existing engineering structures and the vibration mitigation and isolation measures can be implemented accordingly.
