The Orientation of Shot & Post Virtual Community: A Case Study on the Hinet Shot & Post Community

People who live in the same geographic area or for certain common interests or common goals may form a community naturally, which is the so-called ”birds of a feather flock togethe.” In Internet, a virtual community can be deemed as a social collectivity, through which it is possible for people to develop their feelings and interpersonal relationship on a long-term basis. The reason why Internet friends are attracted by the virtual community is that the community provides them with an environment where people may interact with others with respect to a specific topic. Gradually, they recognize the community, generate a sense of belonging, and further create a mutual-trust space together. Rhiengold Howard (1993) discovered in his research that, basically, the existence of community could be attributed to four basic demands of human beings: interest, relation, fantasy, and transaction. However, the formation of an Internet community is not only based on one single demand. Instead, it may come from the demand for many different things at the same time. This study mainly discusses the interaction among members of the ”Hinet Photograph Post” community through the image of photographs posted by them on Hinet and how they establish a subjectivity versus objectivity of being neither friendly nor aloof with strangers by making use of the linking and isolating functions of Internet.
