A Research Combines Geo-Technique Test and a Three Dimensional Image GPR Inspection for Rigid Pavement Pumping Failure

Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) profiling-survey is one of the most important Non-destructive Testing (NDT) techniques used in geological survey, civil engineering and environmental evaluation. Based on the same principle to detect the position and course of an airplane, GPR inspection works through the in-Site Scanning obtain reflected radio signals (radio echoes) from subterraneous objects and analize to the obtained radar image profile. In this paper, a new application of GPR, ”3-Dimensional Image GPR Inspection,” is introduced. Underground condition of the target area in certain depth can be visualized into a ”pseudo-cross-sectional view” using the new technique. The contour of object in question can be distinguished by its appearance, repeat and artificiality; the results are helpful in making engineering judgment or measurement. This research combines GPR technique and geo-technique test, successfully verifies the GPR inspect result and in-Site condition, points out the rigid pavement crack due to pumping, and shows how the inspection is conducted at saturated area.
