Because of the occupational requirement, flight attendants are frequently exposed to low-oxygen-partial-pressure cabin environment. To avoid incapacitation, flight attendants in Taiwan are required to receive annual hemoglobin examination, but hemoglobin standard for suspension or resumption of flight duty is still absent. The history of an iron-deficiency-anemia flight attendant, having been temporarily suspended flight duty due to low hemoglobin, will be presented in this paper. Diagnostic procedures of iron deficiency anemia, low-oxygen-partial-pressure cabin environment and hemoglobin standard of flight attendants are also to be discussed.
