This article described the nursing experience of a patient with osteoarthritis undergoing left total knee replacement. The primary care was from March 10 to March 15, 2009. The data were collected by observation, interview, and chart review. The Gordon 11-item Functional Health Pattern was used to assess the health problem. Major health problems identified included anxiety, acute pain, impaired physical mobility, and knowledge deficit (specify). The author utilized nursing process to provide comprehensive nursing care to help the patient to relieve anxiety before surgical operation and pain after surgical operation, to perform daily living activities and rehabilitation program. The author hopes the experience of nursing care could provide a reference for nursing practice.
