Although conventionally, people who speak both Chinese and English are thought to be natural born interpreters or translators, the development and cultivation of translation competence and knowledge level of translators has been long discussed by academic circles. Translation competence here refers to expert knowledge not possessed by bilingual people. Proficient knowledge level, in this sense, definitely is a plus for translators. This present study, thus, attempts to better understand the relationship between knowledge and translation competence and how knowledge level helps translators to acquire their competence. By examining the relationship between knowledge level and acquisition of translation competence, students and teachers are able to develop effective strategies to facilitate the learning process.
