Multi-Queue Scheduling and Frame Adjustment for Video Sources in Multimedia Networks

並列摘要

All the people expect the Internet to provide multimedia services, especially the video source. However, the QoS requirement is strict for this kind of service and still a challenge to the researchers. For meeting the QoS, the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) has proposed IntServ and DiffServ service models. There are various QoS control issues in the models. This paper proposes a control mechanism in the very original source end system, i.e. the multiplexer, for video sources. The control mechanism consists of two schemes. One is the scheduling scheme, which enhances the weighted round-robin by dynamically changing the weights with the cell rates of video sources. The other is the video frame adjustment, which utilizes the periodicity of video sources to smooth the aggregated traffic of video sources. Some implementation issues are also discussed to illustrate simplicity of the control mechanism. As expected, the performance is obviously improved by the proposed control mechanism. It is proven in the numerical examples.
