Chinese Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of combined chemotherapy based on vinorelbine in the treatment of patients with advanced esophageal cancer. Methods: Fifty six cases with advanced esophageal cancer verified by pathology were divided randomly into 2 groups. Each group consisted of 28 cases. The patients in treatment group were treated with vinorelbine 10 mg iv on day 1. 10 mg of vinorelbine given by micropump for 24 h from day 1 to day 5; fluorouracil 0.5 g/m^2 iv on days 1-5; cisplatin 30 mg/m^2 iv on days 1-3. In the control group the administration and dosage of fluorouracil and cisplatin were same as the treatment group. Drugs were repeated every 4 weeks and curative effects were evaluated after 3 cycles. Results: The response rates of treatment group and control group were 53.4% and 35.7%, respectively, with significant statistical difference (P<0.05). The median survival time of patients in 2 groups was 9.5 months and 8.2 months, respectively. The main side effects were neutropenia and digestive tract reaction. Conclusion: The combined chemotherapy regimen based on vinorelbine shows a good curative effect and low toxicity. It deserves to be further popularized clinically.
