The Roles of Applied Performance Indicators in Network Pavement Management-Canadian Experience

This paper discusses pavement evaluation indicators and deterioration trends observed from Canadian highways. The primary objectives are twofold: 1) technical and economic analyses of the performance indicators applied in pavement rehabilitation programming at network level, 2) assessment of the performance models used in the current pavement management systems. The technical method of carrying out this study is to use the long-term performance data to verify individual pavement deterioration trends. The main findings resulting from the study include the impacts of changing prediction models on pavement preservation programming, the needs for standardizing performance criteria and, relationships between performance criteria and rehabilitation program.
