「基督與文化」抑或「耶穌是主」-尤達的觀點

"Christ and Culture" or "Jesus is Lord": The Perspective of John Howard Yoder

並列摘要

This paper aims to give an analytical introduction to the critique of H. Richard Niebuhr's Christ and Culture by John Howard Yoder. It would help the church to reflect her identity of otherness as alternative community to the world through disclosing the presuppositions and hidden aim which mislead the readers of the book Christ and Culture. Underlying the five types of "Christ and Culture" of Niebuhr, indeed, is a kind of disorder of ecclesiology. In this way, Niebuhr can advocate a certain kind of church practice in the world but paying the price of losing the church identity of otherness. For Yoder, this disorder is a kind of not understanding of the church by confessing Jesus as Lord. Instead of understanding the church as subordinating to Jesus, Niebuhr places Jesus and culture on the same level so that they are both the lords of the church. The church needs to entertain Jesus and the culture. However, for Yoder only Jesus is the Lord of the church and culture. Besides introduction, this paper includes sections of "Rethinking of the presupposition of Christ and Culture", "Rethinking the discourse and theology of Christ and Culture", "Rethinking of the Relationship between Christ and culture" and "Conclusion: What is the church?"
