This paper reviews the recent musicological efforts in studying the intersections of sound, music, space, and environment. These efforts can be broadly defined as the soundscape studies, including the interaction between sonic and cultural spaces, the performativity and the empowerment of soundscapes, the construction of personal soundscapes and the newly emerged eco-musicology derived from the literary eco-criticism and the acoustic ecology inaugurated by Murray Schafer. In conclusion, this paper compares scholarships from Taiwan that had dealt with this issue as a response to this new global interest.
