摘要

農業是經濟與工業發展之基礎，農業科技又是農業生產之基礎，本文就過去的農業科技研究之理念、方法及成就作一回顧性的檢討。同時對台灣最近所發展的生物技術研究情況及將來展望做一探討。本文中就1929年到目前為止之水稻育種目標及方法之變遷作一回顧性探討，並特別探討雜交水稻之研究發展之改變，遺傳資源利用之重要性以舉例說明。針對我國利用遺傳工程技術對作物、動物之品種改良，組織培養之實際應用情況及現階段生物技術在植物保護上之利用研究情形作一簡要報告。

Agriculture is known to be the basis of industrial development; and agricultural science and technology is the basis of agricultural production. The concept and application of agricultural science and technology in Taiwan in the past 40 years were reviewed. The change in objectives and methodology of rice breeding since 1929 up to present time was evaluated with special emphasis on the change in the methodology of hybrid rice breeding. The importance of germplasm collection and utilization was stressed with the known examples. The present status and future prospect of applying biotechnology, tissue culture in crop and animal improvement as well as the prospect of applying biotechnology for plant protection etc. were viewed and discussed.
