Mircea Eliade, the renowned Romanian historian of religion, as well as mythologist and writer, has been widely influential in the areas of contemporary humanities such as religion, mythology, literature, art history, folklore and so on. In recent years, his writings and theories have been constantly introduced in China, although on the other hand, numerous western studies on him have largely been neglected. This article sorts and evaluates relevant foreign research results from the following three perspectives, that is, "reconstruction of Eliade's religious ideology", "controversy caused by Eliade's early political experience and his research methods" as well as "evaluation of Eliade's academic heritage".
