Even though SARS crisis did not turn into a catastrophic outbreak or caused high death rate as other epidemics, it threatens medical personnel in Taiwan with a high infection rate, meanwhile, it also reminds sociologists and researchers to take a close look at the needs of medical personnel. In this study, we take the medical personnel of Tao-Yuan General Hospital Department of Health as example, doctors, nursing staff, and technicians those who often contact with SARS patients. Our goals are to research their behavioral response during SARS outbreaks(April-June, 2003), and their mental and physical status after one year. The research tools are “Coping Behavior Questionnaire” and “Physical Psychology Response Questionnaire”. We apply Correlation Analysis, Multiple Regression and 1-Way ANOVA. According to the results, we suggest as following, 1. Health centers plan and arrange, on a regular basis, epidemic preventive education and counseling. 2. A good crisis management preparation before an epidemic outbreak. Closely observe what employees need for their mental trauma, if any. Offer necessary supportive counseling immediately. 3. Re-training medical staff medical technology who may be exposed to a higher SARS infection rate environment.
