《神啊,祢在嗎?》周譯文與改譯文之兒童讀者反應研究-----以國小高年級兒童為例

A Study of Children Reader’s Response to Zhou’s and the Retranslated Chinese Versions of Are You There God ? It’s Me, Margaret.

指導教授 : 藍月素

摘要

筆者身為國小老師想推薦《神啊 ,祢在嗎?》的中譯本給國小高年級兒童閱讀以加強他們適應環境的能力,因為這本書提供國小兒童解決青春期兩性之間相處的問題,並能促進其身心的成長。這本書的原著(Are You There God ? It’s Me, Margaret.) Are You There God ? It’s me , Margaret.

Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.is an English novel suitable for teenagers to in the US. The reason why I would like to recommend the book Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. to elementary school children in Taiwan is because it can help them solve their problems in the puberty period and stimulate their physical and psychological growth. Hui Ling Zhou translated this novel for junior high school students in Taiwan, and it is the only Chinese translation in Taiwan. The study aimed at finding out whether this retranslated version is suitable for the fifth and sixth graders or not. After reviewing Skopos Theory, Rosenblatt’s Reader-response Theory and theories of Children Literature, this research applied three translation principles proposed by Hung-Shu Chen for retranslating some parts of the novel into Chinese and compared Zhou’s and the retranslated versions. The three principles are “using understandable words”, “translating the meanings instead of the words”, and “using vivid descriptions”; in connection with them, strategies including “rewriting”, “adding”, “substituting”, “explanation”, “adopting phrases” and “changing the order of sentences” were adopted. A questionnaire study was then conducted and altogether 585 questionnaires from fifth and sixth graders in 4 cities in Taiwan were collected and analysed. According to the research results, 53.7% of the children do not agree that the content of the retranslated version is similar to Zhou’s version because of their different translating strategies. But 75% of the children who have ever read the Zhou’s version before the survey agree the content of both versions are similar. More encouragingly, 76.2% of the children agree that the retranslated version is more understandable, and 69.4% of the children agree it is more entertaining. It is hoped the result of the study would serve as a reference in translating foreign children literature works into Chinese and encouraging more and more educators to devote themselves to translating children literature works.
