摘要
本論文旨在透過翻譯軍事史之文體，體驗和實踐筆譯工作流程，並將所學之翻譯技巧和理論加以驗證和應用。本論文共分為五章：第一章為緒論，闡述作者進行翻譯工作的動機，與研究方法。第二章介紹美國空軍徵募的歷史，並以嚴復的「信」與「達」原則及韋努第的歸化與異化理論看譯文的優劣，說明嚴復的「信」與「達」二原則與韋努地的歸化與異化翻譯策略都必須「適度」，符合譯文文本的上下文和語境的需要。第三章探討翻譯原則與翻譯策略如何應用於英譯中的實際過程，並舉大量實例印證。第四章說明譯者應具備何種能力才能一出理想的譯文，並探討翻譯軍事史的異文化因素。第五章總結筆者翻譯美空軍徵募史之心得並提出建議。筆者期盼本論著能提供軍事英語翻譯的一些方法，並對從事軍事英語翻譯的人士有所幫助，進而提升軍事英語翻譯的品質。

Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to discuss English-to-Chinese translation of U.S. Air Force Enlisted History. The author uses translation theories and skills to compare and study English-to-Chinese translation through process of practical translation. This thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is introduction, telling the author’s motivation and methods of the thesis. The second chapter introduces the history of the U.S. Air Force Enlisted History. The author applies Laurence Venuti’s “domestication” and “foreignization” methods to comparing different English-to-Chinese translations, together with Yen Fu’s “loyalty” and “understandability” principles. The third chapter explains how the translation theories and strategies are applied to the process of English-to-Chinese translation in the field of military history, giving many practical examples from the U.S. Air Force Enlisted History. The forth chapter explains the requirement of the translator’s competence in relation to foreign cultural factors, telling readers that a good translator must have what kinds of requirement so that he or she can do better job. The last Chapter is conclusion, giving author’s revelations and suggestions. The author hopes that this thesis will be helpful for those who are interested in translating English-to-Chinese military subjects, especially English-to-Chinese translation of Enlisted History.
