養慧學苑的佛教建築現代化思路

摘要


本研究著眼於台灣當代佛教建築現代化之現象探討,考量早期傳統大木架構佛教建築到近代鋼筋水泥新建廟宇與小神壇,皆以飛簷與傳統大帽子形式為主體,呈現謹守「傳統官式建築」形式的佛教建築表述系譜。然此狀態,終在1990年代宗教現代化與入世主義的時代趨勢下面臨大幅度的翻轉,形成了一股反映當代精神的佛教建築創新思路。秉持不同入世志業與論述方向之團體,自覺性的面對台灣社會局勢,藉由空間的實踐建立符合當代精神的宣教道場,開啟了一波台灣佛教建築史上對建築形態自明性追求的新里程,也是一段社會現代化與宗教空間重新對話以尋求新結合形式的關鍵時刻。 值此全球化下的架構,香光尼僧團與姚仁喜合作的養慧學苑,創此風潮之先,宣示著台灣宗教建築設計論述的大幅度跨越,超越眼前所見的規範,抽離傳統的符號與形制,成就多方現代化的見證,脫胎於安藤忠雄與柯比意的形式美學旨趣,從寺方、信眾、到建築師,將佛教建築現代化之路,所指涉不僅是當代信仰空間與世俗空間的新連結,相應眼前所見的社會真實與現況,開啟了後續台灣佛教建築現象的新路徑,影響深遠。

This study focuses on the phenomenon of the modernization of contemporary Buddhist temples in Taiwan. Unlike earlier traditional wooden architecture and new temples of reinforced concrete with cornices and traditional hats form which are called "traditional official buildings”in Buddhist temples rules, in 1990, under the modernization trend of the era , the Buddhist temple had overturned the traditional style , and shaped a whole new idea which reflects the contemporary spirit of Buddhist temple style. This is a crucial moment for the integratio between social modernization and religious spirit, and starts a new pathway of Buddhist structure pursuing self-evidence in Taiwan. Due to the globalization effect, Yanghui Lyceum which cooperated by the Luminary International Buddhist Society and Mr. Kris Yao have created a trend of the modernization. Meanwhile, this type of architecture declared a dramatically change of design of religious architecture in Taiwan which transcended the forms of aesthetics from Tadao Ando and Le Corbusier. Besides, there is a whole new connection between the modernization and religious belief, and it have led a whole new direction for Buddhist temple in Taiwan.
