一個當代台灣「挽面」文化再興起的探討

摘要

挽面文化是民間最具臺灣文化特色的女子造形大禮，其起源其實來自於人們在各類禮俗及共同生活環境下，因鄉里情感形成的人際網絡所演變來的。回顧成長過程，「挽面」曾陪著許多人度過人生中重要的時刻，其處處都可見到它的芳蹤。因此本論文研究乃以探討台灣挽面產業文化，其背後所隱含的興起衰敗及一個好的文化應該有的延續價值。
本研究透過文獻、採質性研究法中深度訪談與參與觀察等方式蒐集資料，
經訪談與文獻資料探討後，將多元面向取得的豐碩資料予以分類、統計、分析，藉此了解挽面產業在台灣發展過程中，它的歷史背景因素、組成要素、經營模式、對人們生活的影響，以及如何在台灣社會中建立這種老阿嬷遺留下來特有的傳統美容文化。在挽面產業面臨台灣社會快速變遷的環境中，未來該如何發展才能以新的格局，重新立於美容保養與傳統文化傳承的行列中，什麼樣的策略才得以使挽面產業不被時代洪流所吞噬。
經訪談文本內容，透過確切的數字呈現出台灣挽面產業文化的真實面貌，進一步了解挽面產業在台灣社會中總體環境現況、產業競爭與困境，最後就整個研究過程與分析結果加以歸納整理成結論、建議，並藉後續研究者提出建議。

“Face-Threading”or ‘Face Threading’used to be one of the most impressive in gender culture in traditional Taiwan. It prevailed in folk society with its peculiarity as manners and customs of woman’s modeling arts, tiding many folks over many critical moments in life. There has been a sharp decline in popularity as modern arts of make-up replaced it steadily during the past decades. But nowadays resurgence of “Face-Threading” culture in contemporary Taiwan turns itself from a trivial gender mutter into a serious cultural industry under many a social and cultural conditions. What this transition signify has gone into the focus of this research therefore.
In order to interpret such revitalization to the full, this study adopts a qualitative methodology, practicing depth interview and participation- observation to trace and clarify its historical background, development process, management pattern, strength and weakness in changing Taiwan society and soon. Following that, there will be analysis with regard to how this aging tradition can change itself inside out, make a complete break with its past, survive in the contemporary Taiwan and be sustainable in every generation on this island.
Finally, this study will transform research data into some positive schemes and suggestions regarding how this cultural practice can upscale itself in its broadest sense and what the future researcher and government agencies can help grow, develop and patronize this unique cultural arts and skills.
