小林村位於台灣中南部，高雄縣甲仙鄉北部。2009年莫拉克颱風侵襲台灣，小林村發生了災害性崩塌，造成多達400人死亡的滅村事件。 本研究中藉由磁力法來調查小林地區的地質與斷層構造。藉由量測全磁場強度，可以探測到較深層的磁力異常；另外藉由磁力梯度，可了解較淺層的磁力異常。 於研究區域中共有20條側線，累績超過300個資料點。這些側線通過的主要構造包括：甲仙斷層，五里埔斷層，小林崩塌區斷層，以及一個位於楠梓仙溪的新斷層。 由本研究中磁力結果顯示：(1) 楠梓仙溪可能為一個新的斷層，種類可能是垂直斷層或是逆衝斷層，(2)五里埔斷層可能由現有的長度向西延伸 1.5公里，(3)研究區域中的平移斷層可能也有垂直方向的位移，(4)磁力結果證實崩塌區內斷層的存在。本研究結果對於日後台灣斷層的了解亦有實質幫助。

Shiaolin village is located in the northern part of Chiahsien Township, Kaohsiung County. On August 7, 2009, Typhoon Morakot hit Taiwan and caused a catastrophic landslide in Shiaolin, resulting in more than 400 deaths in Shiaolin village and the destruction of the village. In this study, we use the magnetic surveying method to better understand the geology and the subsurface faulting of the Shiaolin area. We measured the total magnetic intensity and the magnetic gradient values in nanoTeslas (nT). The total magnetic intensity usually shows the anomalies in the deeper subsurface geologic structure, whereas the magnetic gradient value is an indicator of anomalies in the shallow subsurface. Twenty lines consisting of a total of more than 300 data points were surveyed in the Shiaolin area. These lines crossed several faults including: the Chiahsien Fault, the Wulipu Fault, the Landslide Fault and a new fault located at the Nantzuhsien (Chishan) River. The magnetic results indicate: (1) a new previously unmapped vertical or thrust fault along the Nantzuhsien River, (2) that the Wulipu Fault extends to the west about 1.5 km, (3) that a strike-slip fault in the area may also have vertical motion and (4) that there is evidence of the Landslide Fault. This research should be useful to those interested in the active faults of Taiwan.
