After the texts has been almost fully collected, and the love was found to be the most popular theme, this paper aims to study the love theme in the Taiwanese popular songs written and sung during the period of Japanese colonial occupation.
During the period of Japanese colonial occupation, to love someone freely, to fall in love freely love had become the initiate illumination widely accepted as part of modern social trend. The youths not only rise to change the tradition of arranged marriage, but also turned around the pursuit of love was dominated by a man.
This essay analyze how a woman described her love in different situation through Taiwanese songs. When she committed her love to someone, she sang to confess. When she was in love with someone, she sang for her sadness and happiness. When she was betrayed or turned down by a man, she cried to sing. All those Taiwanese love songs were so popular that they were united deeply with the ordinary people's everyday life, they were used as metaphors of the nation. This paper interprets the theme of love, the image, and the tune appeared in the Taiwanese songs during the period of Japanese colonial occupation.
