棘頰海葵魚 (Spine-cheek anemonefish, Premnas biaculeatus Bloch, 1790) 成熟種魚配對後經 3 ~ 6 個月培育會陸續產卵,受精卵呈長橢圓形橘紅色的附著性卵,平均長徑為 1.81 ± 0.09 mm;平均短徑為 0.79 ± 0.03 mm;平均卵黃徑為 1.25 ± 0.09 mm,內有0.16 ± 0.03 mm 大小不一之油球數個。平均水溫27.3 ± 1 ℃下約需 144.5 小時孵化,孵化時間會在日沒後開始進行。初孵化的仔魚全長為3.64 ± 0.31 mm,具趨光性,開口口徑為470 ± 60 μm可攝食輪蟲 (Brachionus plicatilis),此時頭部所有骨骼元素均以軟骨形式存在,上頜骨、齒骨與咽齒骨會隨著口部發育於第2日開始骨化;第 3 日神經棘、血管棘及椎體橫突等骨骼已達定數;第 5 日起口徑為 0.68 ± 0.26 mm 可開始兼投大型橈足類,此時準備進入脊索末端上屈中期;第 7 ~ 8 日,體表橫帶開始形成且下尾骨開始骨化並可發現牙齒形成;第 10 日脊索末端上屈後期且鰭條開始發育,仔魚游泳能力明顯增強;第 15 日前後體表色素開始擴散全身,下尾骨及主要鰭條完全骨化;孵化後第 20 日,仔魚全長已達 8.60 ± 1.04 mm,可開始接受人工粒狀飼料;第 31 日後全長為 9.88 ± 1.48 mm開始進入稚魚階段。由骨骼與形質結果可知,仔魚發育初期主要將能量運用攝食相關形質發育上,顯示仔魚之攝食機能發育必需優先於游泳機能,如此可確保仔稚魚在初期階段不會因飢餓及營養不良而遭到淘汰。
