Optimal Active Noise Control of Sound Field in Enclosures

Boundary element method in conjunction with optimization techniques were employed for investigating active noise control of sound field in three-dimensional enclosures. The total time averaged acoustic potential energy was chosen as the cost function for optimization schemes. Boundary element method was used for modeling the monochromatic sound field generated by noise sources in the enclosure of interest. Optimal amplitudes of secondary sources were determined by the direct matrix inversion algorithm, the steepest descent algorithm, and the conjugate gradient algorithm. Optimal positions and amplitudes were determined by the constrained steepest descent method. The developed BEM-based optimization techniques were applied to test cases (with known analytical solutions) in a numerical simulation. Physical interpretations were derived from the results and consideration involed in practical implementation were also commented.
