In the early stage, the hydrophones are typically based on the Mach-Zehnder or Michelson interferometer. Because these interferometers are of two arms, the optical path difference (OPD) between the reference and the sensing arm must be shorter than the coherent length of the light source. In this paper, in order to overcome these limitations, we use a sangac the interferometer, because of its zero OPD. Our experiments show that the sensitivity of the Sagnac-type hydrophone depends on the frequency, and is particularly suitable for sensing a low frequency undcrwater sound field with strong background noises.
