The current study examined the evolution of soundscapes in Pinglin since 1970 through personal interviewing, participle observation, and field research. I explored the creative process of soundscape composition, with a focus on the underlying spatial and social dynamics. By documenting the diverse interpretations of soundscapes in Pinglin, I demonstrated the differences and tension between internal and external forces. Together, the study sheds light on the dynamic system underlying soundscape production, providing examples and implications for soundscape research at multiple levels. In conjunction with the spirit of community participation, we proposed the concept of Sound-Life Unity, which hopefully will contribute to the development of new epistemologies and methodologies for preserving and designing soundscapes.
