Background: Schizophrenia is a chronic and serious mental illness. The quality of life and social adaptation after returning to the society is getting more concern. Subjective well-being is used as an indicator of the patient's adaptation in the society.
Research purposes: The purposes of the study were to explore the subjective well-being of schizophrenic patients. Understanding the affecting factors on the subjective well-being of schizophrenic patients.
Research method: This is a cross-sectional descriptive study design with purposive sampling. Total 165 of outpatients were recruited in the study from psychiatric teaching hospital in the central. The instruments were applied to the study including demographic questionnaire, job satisfaction scale, personality scale, social support scale, and Chinese well-being scale.
Data analysis: Data were analyzed by SPSS 21.0 statistical software. Descriptive data were analyzed by mean, standard deviation and range. Inferential statistics were used as independent sample t test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation, multiple regression.
Results: The well-being of outpatients with chronic schizophrenia was 23.44 points low(SD=12.37 ) (score 0-60 points)，. The performing interest activity, job, years of illness, job satisfaction, personality traits (openness, extroversion, friendliness, prudence), social support were significantly related to the subjective well-being of the outpatients. The important predictors of well-being in patients with chronic schizophrenia, the positive effects are "open personality", "extroverted personality", and "informative support","Intrinsic job satisfaction"; the negative effects are "job availability ", "neurotic personality".
Research conclusions: Based on the findings of the research on the influencing factors of subjective well-being, clinical nurses can provide psychological care to improve well-being.
