The aim of this study is to survey the biodiversity of cercosporoid fungi in Taiwan. Cercosporoid fungi refer to Cercospora allied hyphomycetes whose teleomorph are members of Mycosphaerella. The anamorphic genera, Cercospora, Pseudocercospora, Ramularia, and Passalora constitute major proportion of cercosporoid fungi. Most cercosporoid fungi are plant pathogens with high host specificity, causing leaf spots. This study collected cercosporoid fungi from different kinds of leaf spots. Identification was largely based on fungal morphology and host identity. There are 49 species recognized, including 7 Cercospora, 33 Pseudocercospora, 4 Ramularia, 3 Passalora, and 2 Pseudocercosporella. There are 10 new species (9 Pseudocercospora, 1 Passalora ) and 7 new records (Pseudocercospora pouzolziae, Pseudocercospora guianensis, Ramularia pleuropteri, Cercospora fragarina, Cercospora fragariae, Pseudocercospora jamaicensis, Pseudocercospora rubi). ITS sequences of these species were obtained for further investigation.
