摘要

本論文旨在呈現筆者翻譯Globalization and Social Change：People and Places in a Divided World《全球化與社會變遷：處於分割世界裡的人和地》一書的過程、譯文與心得，一方面探討筆者如何將所學的翻譯技巧運用在社會科學論述的翻譯上，另一方面則傳達全球化的相關資訊。
本論文共分六章，第一章說明筆者的研究動機與目的。第二章為原文作者介紹以及內容簡介。第三章說明筆者在翻譯過程中所採取的策略並簡述翻譯過程。第四章為中文譯文。第五章為本論文的重點，筆者參酌翻譯理論來分析並改進自己的譯作，將理論與實務作一連結，也證明理論的實用性。第六章為結論，筆者提出個人心得及建議，作為自己日後努力的方向，也供各界參考。

The thesis discusses the application of translation theories and techniques to the translation of Globalization and Social Change：People and Places in a Divided World. It notes down the translating process and what the author has learned from the process.
The thesis is divided into six chapters. Chapter 1 presents the motive and the purpose of the thesis. Chapter 2 gives a brief introduction of both the author and the content of the source book. Chapter 3 focuses on the author’s translation strategy and translating process. Chapter 4 is the translation of the source book. Chapter 5, the main body of the thesis, analyzes the problems the author encounters and probes into the application of translation theories and techniques to the translation work. Chapter 6 concludes with a summary of the author’s experience in translating the book and offers some suggestions for translators.
