The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationships among parents’rearing attitudes, parent-adolescent conflict coping styles, and interpersonal problems. In addition, the study explored the gender differences on parents’rearing attitudes, parent-adolescent conflict coping styles, and interpersonal problems. The sample consisted of 627 7th to 9th grade students from 9 junior high schools in Taipei, Taiwan. The instruments used in this study included Parents’ Rearing Attitudes Scale, Parent-Adolescent Conflict Coping Styles Scale, and Adolescents’ Interpersonal Problems Scale. The data obtained were analyzed by one-way MANOVA and canonical correlational analysis. The main findings were as follows: 1.There were significant gender differences on mothers’ rearing attitudes, father-adolescent conflict coping styles, mother-adolescent conflict coping styles, and interpersonal problems. There were no significant gender differences on fathers’rearing attitudes. 2.Father-adolescent conflict coping styles and interpersonal problems were significantly different according to their perceptions on fathers’rearing attitudes. 3.Mother-adolescent conflict coping styles and interpersonal problems were significantly different according to their perceptions on mothers’rearing attitudes. 4.There were four significant canonical correlations between parents’rearing attitudes and parent-adolescent conflict coping styles. 5.There was one significant canonical correlation between parents’rearing attitudes and interpersonal problems. 6.There were three significant canonical correlations between parent-adolescent conflict coping styles and interpersonal problems. 7.There were three significant canonical correlations between parents’rearing attitudes, parent-adolescent conflict coping styles and interpersonal problems. 8.For male students, there were three significant canonical correlations between parents’rearing attitudes, parent-adolescent conflict coping styles and interpersonal problems. For female students, there were two significant canonical correlations between parents’rearing attitudes, parent-adolescent conflict coping styles and interpersonal problems. Finally, based on the findings, some suggestions for parents of adolescents, counseling practice, and future research were proposed.
