The purpose of this study is to investigate the mechanical and thermal properties of graphite/polypropylene composites. The compatibility of graphite with polypropylene was improved by surface modification of graphite or addition of maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene (MAPP) as the compatibilizer. The Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer (DMA) test shows that the rigidity of polypropylene composites were effectively enhanced via adding modified graphite. Moreover, the crystallinity of polypropylene was increased from 36.42% to 54.25%. The thermal conductivity was improved from 0.23 W/mK to 2.17 W/mK. The electrical resistance of polypropylene can decreased from 6.5×1016 Ω to 1.62×103Ω after adding modified graphite. These results indicate that modified graphite can be enhance the thermal and conductive properties of polypropylene composites. These resulting composites can be utilized as anti-static materials.
