臺灣鮭魚的再考證－成熟雄魚的第二性徵

Revertification of Formosa Landlocked Salmon: the Secondary Sexual Traits in Mature Male Fish

摘要

臺灣蛙魚(學名Oncorhynchus masou jormosanus)，英文俗稱臺灣鮭魚、為Formosa (n)landlocked salmon、Taiwan landlocked salmon或Taiwan salmon，過去臺灣學界和媒體多常以櫻花鉤吻鮭相稱。在2006年起引發正名廣泛討論後，中華民國魚類學會於2007年理監事會議順應輿情，決議改稱為臺灣櫻花鉤吻鮭。筆者閱讀早期記載臺灣鮭魚的中、日、英文歷史文獻，還有近年來有關鮭科魚類的報告，加上自己十多年實際參予臺灣鮭魚繁殖復育調查的研究經驗，認為仍有不盡周全之處。臺灣鮭魚成熟雄性種魚的外部型態和 幼魚相似，既無北方日本櫻鮭家族典型的櫻花體色，也沒鉤吻狀頓部，所以臺灣櫻花鉤吻鮭仍應該正名為臺灣鮭魚，以名副其實。

Currently, the official Chinese name of the Formosa(n) landlocked salmon (Oncorhynchus masou jormosanus) , also known as Taiwan salmon, is referred to as cherry blossom hooked snout salmon by the Taiwanese academic community and mass media. After extensive public debate and academics argument in 2006 , the Board Directors of the Ichthyological Society of Taiwan decided in 2007 to change its existing Chinese common name to Taiwan cherry blossom hooked snout salmon, meaning the salmon with a hooked nose and cherry blossom-shaped body color in Taiwan. Four subspecies of cherry salmon complex differ in degree of anadromy, body size and color, and snout morphology. Compared to the Japanese masu salmon subspecies, male Taiwan salmon typically mature at a smaller size, often even as parr, and show no clear snout development. Taiwan cherry blossom hooked snout salmon is still misleading and should therefore be renamed Taiwan salmon to match the reality of Taiwan salmon, paedomorphosis and neoteny (retention of juvenile features in the adult).
