Wandering is one of the problem behaviors among elders with dementia and if serious, it might cause falls, fractures, lost of direction, and even death. This paper is to introduce the result of assessment framework on the wandering behavior of the demented elders, including the assessment of wandering patterns, ways, purposes, rest, risk symptoms and related factors. Additionally, the nursing principles of wandering situations with the lost elders and the not lost, nursing goals with interventions, and expected outcomes are presented. Finally, the author introduces a wandering behavior case and applies the probing questions to discuss this case with nursing students. It is expected that this article could provide a protocol for nursing teachers to teach students the nursing process of wandering behavior among elders with dementia, as well as be a reference for long-term care workers in the application of care for wandering behavior among elders with dementia.
