This paper presents a newly developed multistage loop-flow (MSTLFLO) flotation column for liquid/particle separation. The unique design of the MSTLFLO column consists of multiple draft-tubes separated by cone baffles to induce liquid circulation and achieve high separation efficiency. Characteristics of column operation in terms of its hydrodynamic behavior and operating variables are examined in detail. Three different systems, including fine particle suspension, emulsified oil, and dissolved phenol in water, have been tested. The results demonstrate the effectiveness and versatility of the MSTLFLO floatation column as a new tool for liquid/particle separation.
