On the Equivalence of Fermionic and Bosonic Descriptions in Two Dimensions

We give an elementary treatment on the construction of a massless free fermion held in terms of a scalar field in two dimensions, and discuss some subtle points in the correspondence between the fermionic and the bosonic descriptions. We also analyze a simple two-dimensional field theory with a derivative coupling.
