On the Research of Holocaust and Ethnic Reconciliation

This essay discusses the dilemma of contemporary Holocaust research: to forget or not to forget. For the Jews, it is their duty to discover the truth of Holocaust and teach the world lessons they should cherish. Sixty years have passed since the liberation of Auschwitz Concentration Camp but Anti-Semitism sentiments and riots still exist. It seems we don't learn the lessons of history. Maybe, to forget is the humanity. The author insists most researches, especially those of the Judeo scholars, are wrong in their attitude towards Holocaust. Remembering the tragedy of a nation helps the Jews to construct ethnic consciousness, but it also causes resentment from other nations. Memories are ineffective as tools in resolving ethnic conflicts. According to the author, the famous saying by Ernest Renan-”forgetting the historical mistakes is the premise for the construction of a new nation”-is the best solution to ethnic reconciliation.
