Japanese traditional culture have strong influence on Japanese people. This can be seen from the fact that Japanese traditional Chado culture still exerts considerable influence in many aspects of Japanese design profession. As one branch of design profession, Japanese architects are no exception to this rule. As regards expressing Japanese traditional culture through the medium of architectural works, Tadao Ando is probably the foremost architect in present-day Japan. This study proposes to examine Tadao Ando's architectural works in the light of Japanese traditional Chado culture by way of Coomaraswamy's traditional symbolism.
