摘要

台灣政府近年來推動許多金融改革政策，主要是希望藉由提高金融機構的集中度以降低它們惡性競爭，以及改善金融機構經營效率不佳的現象。本文以1996-2007年台灣銀行業爲研究對象，探討銀行集中度及銀行效率對銀行市場競爭度的影響。主要實證結果有以下兩個：第一、銀行集中度與銀行市場競爭度的關係呈非線性的關係。當銀行集中度低時，提高銀行集中度會提高銀行的市場競爭度，當銀行集中度高時，提高銀行集中度會降低銀行的市場競爭度。第二、銀行效率愈高，銀行的市場競爭度愈低。

In recent years, the Taiwan government has implemented numerous financial reforms. The main aims of these reforms has been to lower excessive competition among financial institutions by raising their concentration and to improve the efficiency of financial institutions. This paper presents an empirical study on the impact of bank concentration and bank efficiency on bank competition in Taiwan from 1996 to 2007. This paper finds that the relation between bank concentration and bank competition is nonlinear. While bank concentration is low, increasing bank concentration results in increasing bank competition. While bank concentration is high, increasing bank concentration results in decreasing bank competition. This paper also finds that higher bank efficiency lowers bank competition.
